12 Steps to lose your Internet Empire
Posted by: MSCopeland in Web 2.0, Information Marketing, Internet Empire, Hosting, Advertising/Marketing, Business Plan, MC's BlogIt has come to my attention there are some people with Internet Empires which may not be on safe ground. You have to have a strong foundation so your empire will survive any sort of catastrophe. If you would like to know the 12 steps to lose your Internet Empire, please read on.
- STEP 1: When picking a web host provider, make sure you choose them based on how cheap they are and the many many extras they give you which seem astronomically impossible.
- STEP 2: Make sure you rely on one website for all your income.
- STEP 3: Don’t worry about doing any keyword research.
- STEP 4: Do not do any sort of niche research.
- STEP 5: Do not capture visitor email addresses and names.
- STEP 6: Make sure you Do Not, I repeat, ‘DO NOT’ do any sort of tracking or traffic analysis at all.
- STEP 7: Do not Blog about your site, products, news in your niche, or industry.
- STEP 8: Do not keep track of your competition’s marketing schemes, successes, failures, freebies, etc.
- STEP 9: Be sure not to use any of the social media outlets to market your product.
- STEP 10: Do not worry about doing any market testing on your product, service, and/or sales page to ensure you have a viable product, niche, or enough interest.
- STEP 11: Make sure you get into an oversaturated market and be more general instead of a specific niche.
- STEP 12: THE MOST IMPORTANT! DO NOT BACKUP YOUR WEBSITE OR ANY INFORMATION GATHERED.

Mike,
I’ve checked over your list and I must say, you’ve definitely hit all the big points! Also, I love the visual as it adds emphasis to your point! Items 2,3 & 4 are near and dear to my heart, and are probably the biggest & worst mistakes most newbies endure (including myself at one point). One question though, what are your thoughts on how would one go about consistently making backups of their site and safely storing it?

Great approach to getting ones attention.
I have tried almost all of these steps to be sure I was doing absolutely everything wrong and sure enough I fell flat on my face.
Well okay, I made that last part up, but thanks for the read. Keep it up.

Herb,
Personally I like a host which uses cPanel for the backend management. I’ve been using it years and years and have tried many others. CPanel just seems to be the best in my opinion. There is a backup function there which will allow you to do a FULL backup of your website. This includes mail and databases! Very important! If you’re using a CMS which requires a database, like Wordpress, Joomla, etc.. You HAVE to back up the database otherwise it’s useless.
For me, I have a company I use who hosts my backup file for me. If anything was to happen at my current host, I just activate that backup on their server and it’s online immediately!!! It’s very important that your sites are never down!
They are by referral only right now but are working on publicly launching in the coming months.
Send me a comment on the Contact page and I’ll give you their info if you’re interested. I’m going to try and work out a deal with them to help all of us fellow IMers, so if you want to wait for that, just sit tight and stay tuned. Make sure you fill out the form at the top of the page to get the updates.

Mike, you definitely drove those nails in. This is very important not to do. I like this one “Make sure you Do Not, I repeat, ‘DO NOT’ do any sort of tracking or traffic analysis at all” because tracking TOO important, and this one “Make sure you rely on one website for all your income” I’ve seen this one happen where the person failed to backup their website, lossed it and lossed their business, ouch… Thanks Mike.

I wish I was going to the Midwest Super Conference, but I can’t. I know I’m missing out on too many things this year, but hopefully I’ll be able to catchup next year.
